Love Gospel Assembly was founded in 1970 by Bishop Kaufman after Ricardo Tanon, Pastor of John 3:16, a church on Westchester Avenue in the South Bronx, saw a need for an English Department within his Spanish-speaking congregation.
In 1976, LGA later obtained space within Beck Memorial, a church located on 180th Street in the Bronx. As a result of intense community outreach and tireless fundraising efforts, Love Gospel purchased their own building in 1979 at their current location of 2323 Grand Concourse. Within five years, in 1984, the congregation paid their mortgage in full.
It was with great sadness and dismay that Love Gospel Assembly received the news of Bishop Kaufman's passing in April of 1997. This however, did not deter the congregation's call to possess the land, and under the leadership of Joshua (Bishop Ronald Bailey), they subsequently purchased the rest of the property located on the south side of the church, a year after Bishop Kaufman went on to be with the Lord.
